Prompted by a strong community wide desire to be
connected to the Internet, interested individuals
formed the Dease Lake Internet Society in 1996 in
order to submit a proposal to Industry Canada for
a Community Access Grant. This society included members
of the R.C.M.P., Northern Lights College, Parents
Advisory Council, School District #87 (Stikine) administration
and staff, Dease Lake Lions Club, Tahltan Tribal Council,
Chamber of Commerce and local business. The mandate
of the Dease Lake Internet Society is to facilitate
use of the Internet Dease Lake.
Since then, the Dease Lake Internet Society has continued
to grow and to increase survice to the Dease Lake
community. The Society also provides free Internet
access to community members through the Northern Lights
College's computer lab. The society now has over 100
subscribers, in a community of 650 people.
